Happy New Year! What Do You Resolve?

This year I resolve that I know less than I thought I did, but more than the year before. I guess that is okay. I also resolve to resolve nothing.

More than 55% of Americans will make a New Year's Resolution. Most of these self-promises will be broken in the first month, but not before the second week, it seems. But why?

The Most Common Resolutions

Experts says people are making the wrong resolutions. Looking at some of the top ten, they don't look so wrong...

  • Spending more time with family
  • Dropping inches
  • Drinking less
  • Eating more healthy
  • Exercising more
  • Stopping smoking
  • Stopping drinking
  • Organizing better

People Want to Improve Their Lives

Resolutions come in with the new year because people want to make amends or improve their character. They want to be more considerate or better at certain things. Guilt and desire come into play.

These feelings can often multiply when the resolution is broken and their attempts fail. Change really is difficult. Time and money, the pressures of life don't allow people to live up to their ideals.

Leave it Behind Along with Last Year

My goal this year is just to say good-bye to last year. Gladly. It was full of trials and disappointments and I'm quite glad to see it go.

I know a lot of people that feel the same. So as this new year kicks off I am simply going to lick my wounds and make no promises. I'm going to allow myself time to heal and pray that this year is better.

I know a lot of people feel the same.
